Flavor #1 – Udderly Chocolate

Hey everybody, welcome back! I’m so glad to see you’ve returned.

The first flavor I’m going to talk about today is Tillamook’s Udderly Chocolate. It contains chocolate, as you can tell. However, this is a blend of rich chocolate, white chocolate, and chocolate chips/bits.

When I first saw the packaging, I thought it was going to be a mix of vanilla and chocolate, which is a classic way to go. I was a little skeptical about getting it in the beginning, but I decided to give it a go regardless.

I gave each individual ice cream flavor a try before I really dug into it.

The regular chocolate ice cream portion was very good. If you like a classic chocolatey flavor, then you would love this. It was rich and full of flavor, and it reminded me of the ice cream I would get when I was little. The nostalgia really made me embrace it even more.

I tasted the white chocolate next, and I would first of all like to say that I’ve never been a big fan of white chocolate. It really isn’t that bad, but as someone who hardly eats chocolate products (like candy) anyway, it just wasn’t really for me.

This completely changed my mind.

I’m not sure what I expected from the white chocolate, but I don’t think I thought it would be amazing. I can’t lie though; it was the best! Tillamook, you really outdid yourself.

It made me rethink my view of white chocolate, and I would honestly eat a white chocolate ice cream by itself now. I don’t know if it was because of Tillamook’s brand specifically or not, but it was life changing.

When I finally combined the flavors together – along with the chocolate chips – the flavor was IMMACULATE.

The ice creams apart were glorious. Together, they were heaven. However, adding in the chocolate chips, which gave it a mix of textures, made the entire serving unstoppable. It didn’t taste too chocolatey, but it was still enough for the chocolate connoisseurs out there.

I don’t eat much chocolate ice cream, but this will be one of my go-to flavors from now on, 100%.

I asked my mom to try it as well, and she doesn’t really like chocolate ice cream or white chocolate in general either. She said it was pretty good too!

Do I recommend it? Without a doubt, yes.

If this sounds like a flavor that interests you, you can go here and see if you can find it in a local store near you!

Bonus: Flavor #7 – Cookies and Cream

Hey everybody, welcome back to Tilla-Maya! It feels great to be back for this special bonus post!

As I mentioned in my last post about a month ago, the semester was coming to an end, and it’s officially over now! It went well, and I’m so happy to be on this break!

Throughout my blogging experience, I had the privilege of being noticed by Tillamook themselves! It was the most incredible feeling, and I just wanted to thank them for sending me the t-shirt and the ice cream! I never thought I’d have the chance to sample this flavor, at least for a loooong while, since they don’t sell it in my area! I’m very grateful!

So let’s get into the review!

Today, I’m reviewing the Cookies and Cream ice cream. Cookies and cream is my all time favorite ice cream flavor, regardless of the brand. When I discovered I’d get the opportunity to eat some from my favorite brand, I was beyond excited! So the question stands: Does my favorite ice cream brand completely crush my favorite ice cream flavor? Well let’s just say that I was not disappointed.

The ice cream is INCREDIBLE. I’ll break down the reasons why.

The cream itself, even without the cookies, was just lovely. The French vanilla was classic and exquisite, and everything you would love in a vanilla ice cream. If I’m being honest, even people who think vanilla ice cream is boring could still eat Tillamook’s by itself.

The cookies added into the ice cream brought it to the next level. What I loved about them was the fact they weren’t soggy. I usually expect cookies in ice cream to be even softer, but these still had a little crunch to them! I’m not even sure how you can maintain a crunchy cookie in ice cream, especially considering the fact that Tillamook’s ice cream seems to be 10x creamier than other ice creams.

Would I recommend this? ABSOLUTELY! I’m purposely eating smaller portions of the ice cream just to make it last longer, so I 100% think you should try it. You can check here to see if it’s available in a store near you!

Thank you again, Tillamook, for sending me this ice cream! It’s delicious, and I love the t-shirt as well!

That’s all! See you later 🙂

Goodbye . . . For Now!

Welcome to Tilla-Maya!

It is officially May, which means this semester is coming to an end. This week, I am going to take a moment to reflect on how this blog has affected my life.

First of all, I wanted to say that I’m proud of what I’ve done, but there’s always room for improvement. One of the things that could improve my blog would be if I were to include other people’s opinions as well as my own. It would be super insightful to hear more than one person’s thoughts and add them in.

I also probably could have promoted with shorter tweets. I always used the maximum amount of characters to give more insight about what my post was going to be about; I could have instead let the post speak for itself and kept the tweets simpler.

My best experience of this project was getting noticed by Tillamook! My entire blog was circled around their brand of ice cream. On my promotion tweet for my fourth flavor post, Waffle Cone Swirl, @TillamookDairy on Twitter replied with, “Love to hear it.” They also liked that tweet, as well as liking every single promotion tweet I’ve posted since that one! They also recently sent me a direct message offering me some free ice cream of the flavor of my choice, which is something I never thought would happen! It was so cool knowing that my tweets and blog had reached them.

This will definitely help me in the future. As an advertising major, I have to know how to market to people and make things sounds appealing enough so that it grabs their attention and/or convinces people to try for themselves. I’ve tried my hardest to do that for each post, and people have actually asked me about other flavors I liked, as well as telling me that they’ve tried the ice cream for themselves! I hope to carry this experience on with me as I get into the workplace and be able to effectively use the strategies I’ve learned to appeal to different audiences in the future.

My most popular week was the week of February 17th-23rd. I received 68 views and 22 visitors that week. I actually got more visitors the week after (31 visitors), but fewer views (41 views). My most popular post was my very first post, the introduction. It received 49 views total. It was probably the most popular because it was at the start of my blog and people were the most curious at the beginning. I was a bit surprised overall; I didn’t even think anybody would view my blog except for my grader, myself and occasionally my parents. Not only have I received views from the United States, but also from the United Kingdom, Canada, and The Philippines! This was really cool to look at! As far as social media stats, my Twitter page generated about 45 of all of my views total, which is pretty cool!

Well, this was truly a great experience, and I don’t know if I’m done with this just yet!

If you want to check out more Tillamook ice cream flavors, as well as other products by them, you can visit their website here!

Thank you so much for sticking with me through this! Stay home, stay safe and until next time…😉

Flavor #6 – Chocolate Covered Strawberry

Welcome back to Tilla-Maya!

This week I’m going to reviewing another one their pint-size flavors (they’re just so convenient), Chocolate Covered Strawberry, and this time it’s a gelato. How fancy!

Have I ever actually had chocolate covered strawberries? It’s very possible, but I don’t remember if I did. I love strawberries and I’m just going to assume that they’re good with chocolate on them.

For this flavor, it contained a mascarpone gelato, strawberry ripple, and fudge pieces.

It was really pretty when I opened the carton! The gelato was an ivory color, and the strawberry ripple was a gorgeous red that seemed to easily spread and swirl throughout gelato.

When I took the first bite, I literally could NOT stop.

The gelato itself was great and the fudge pieces were too; it reminded me of a classic chocolate chip ice cream. However, the strawberry took it to another level.

The strawberries were sweet, but not too sweet. Unlike the the strawberries in the sweeter ice cream, Oregon Strawberry (I reviewed that one here), these strawberries had more of a tanginess to it. The tanginess was PERFECT! If the strawberries had been sweeter, the entire flavor may have been too sweet for my liking. The tang contrasted with the other flavors and left me in awe.

When I say I couldn’t stop eating after the first bite, I meant it. I ate it all in one sitting. Technically I was supposed to finish it all off, because the seal on the carton clearly said, “Don’t stop until you reach the bottom.” I did my job well.

Would I recommend this? Of course I would! Tillamook has done it again. Am I really surprised? Not at all; they always come through for us. I hope you decide to try it for yourself!

Thank you so much for reading, and I’ll see you next time! 😊

Flavor #5 – Oregon Marionberry Cheesecake

Welcome back to Tilla-Maya!

I hope everybody who celebrates Easter managed to have a nice one even in these times.

The next flavor I’m going to be reviewing is actually a frozen custard. I found out that Tillamook apparently also sells little pints! I was so excited that I had to pick some up. This one is called Oregon Marionberry Cheesecake.

In all honesty, I definitely tend to stick with flavors that I know I’d be more comfortable with, and this time I just wanted to try something that I wouldn’t have really considered trying before.

Cheesecake is really good to me, but I had no idea what a marionberry was. When I looked up marionberries, I discovered that it’s also called a “Marion blackberry” and that they actually originated in Oregon. They have a somewhat tart flavor with a hint of sweetness as well.

When I tried it, I was in HEAVEN. The marionberries are so good! They do have a tartness to them, and it complements the sweetness of the ice cream itself very well. The cheesecake pieces in there were very good, and I’m very impressed by it.

Once I took that first bite, I almost couldn’t stop. It truly felt like every single bite was even better than the last, and I went on a little tangent. I eventually stopped because my mom said she wanted to have some of it as well.

The ice cream is also very pretty! The marionberries created a nice purple swirl that was absolutely gorgeous and made the ice cream all the more exciting to dig into.

Do I recommend this? Without a doubt. This is officially going to be one of my go-to flavors.

Check here to see if you can find it in a store near you!

Thanks for dropping by, and I’ll see you all next week!

Flavor #4 – Waffle Cone Swirl

Welcome back to Tilla-Maya! Happy Good Friday to you all!

First of all, I just wanted to say that I hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and secure during this time. With everything going on in the world right now, I hope everyone is doing what they can to help themselves and the people around them. 😊

Now, we’re back with another flavor! This week, I decided to review Tillamook’s Waffle Cone Swirl. It was labeled as a new flavor, and it consists of chocolate ice cream, vanilla ice cream, a caramel swirl, and chunks of waffle cone – specifically a chocolate waffle cone.

I’ve always been more of an “ice cream in a bowl” kind of girl rather than one for ice cream cones, but this is almost like the best of both worlds since it’s practically an ice cream cone in a bowl!

As always, Tillamook’s chocolate and vanilla ice cream was amazing. They have a classic taste that I just adore. The caramel that’s in it honestly made the ice cream for me.

I absolutely LOVE caramel. I used to eat an ice cream very similar to this – chocolate, vanilla, and caramel – and it was one of my favorite flavors when I was younger, so I was very excited to dig into this.

Basically, if you like ice cream cones, you’re going to love this ice cream. The classic flavors along with the chocolate waffle cone produces a timeless creation. The waffle cone that was added in gives it a little boost for most, and it still holds the crunch even inside the ice cream.

If I’m being honest, it’s not really my favorite. Do I still like it, and will I continue to eat it? Yes, I will, but not as much as I would eat the other flavors I’ve tried. Like I said before, I’ve never really been big on ice cream cones. I’ll eat one, but I prefer ice cream by itself, or even with cookies.

With all this being said, it is still a good ice cream and I do still recommend that you try it! Look here to see if you can find it in a store near you!

Thanks so much for tuning in, and I’ll see you next time!

Review: “On Second Scoop”

Welcome back to Tilla-Maya!

This post is going to be a bit different than my usual posts. Today, instead of reviewing an ice cream flavor, I’m going to be reviewing another blog who also reviews ice cream.

This blog is called “On Second Scoop” and the very first post was in 2008. They’re still posting to this day in 2020 after almost 12 years! Now that’s called dedication.

Unlike my blog that focuses on one brand, their blog is about all sorts of ice cream. They’ve reviewed over 1,900 products! The products include regular ice cream in a carton, as well as ice cream/sweet products, like ice cream sandwiches/cookies. There’s even a spot on the home page with a search box, so you could find a specific product that they’ve reviewed.

First of all, I love their name. “On Second Scoop” is a nice little play on words, and it has to do with the fact that they always try their ice cream more than once, and they give a second thought (or rather, a second scoop) about it before giving their verdict.

I also love the color scheme. It’s a simple mixture of blues, but coolness adds to the website content itself and makes it more appealing. If it had colors that were blander, I don’t think I would have been able to keep looking through their website. It’s not only because I personally love color, but also because it’s ice cream, and ice cream is supposed to be fun and colorful!

Another thing I like about this blog is that their pictures are really nice. Not only do they show the packaging of the ice cream, but they also show the process of eating it by taking photos of the ice cream itself – before and after some is scooped out.

Lastly, they provide excellent information. Their reviews themselves were very informative. They talked about the texture and the tastes, and even showed the nutrition facts and mention how the different ingredients factor into the taste and texture.

Aside from their reviews, they also have a news section where you can find some prominent news about different ice cream brands. However, that portion hasn’t been updated since 2017, but it is still a cool addition to the site.

Would I recommend checking this blog out? I would highly recommend it. It’s something that I’m going to keep bookmarked for the future for sure. It’s super helpful and entertaining, and it feels like you’re having a nice conversation with them. I think you’d like it as much as I do! You can check it out here.

Well, that’s all I have for today! I’ll see you all next time, bye! 🙂

Flavor #3 – Mint Chocolate Chip

Welcome back again!

The next flavor I’m reviewing is Tillamook’s Mint Chocolate Chip!

Mint chocolate chip ice cream actually used to be my favorite flavor of ice cream growing up, until I eventually got more into cookies and cream. Since then, I haven’t eaten much of mint chocolate chip ice cream. I still enjoy it, but it’s never one of “go-to” flavors anymore nowadays.

With that being said, I was still excited to try this flavor.

I was a little surprised – yet again – when I noticed the color. If you think back to my last post about the strawberry ice cream, I noted that the strawberry ice cream was very pale in color; it was very light pink, almost white. Well, it’s a similar case with this ice cream, except that this one is just white.

At first glance, it just looks like chocolate chip ice cream. I even double-checked the label afterwards just in case. Sure enough, it was still the mint chocolate chip – minus the mint green color we’re all used to seeing.

The first bite made me completely realize why Tillamook doesn’t use brighter colors. It’s because they don’t NEED to.

Hear me out.

The flavor was so, so tasty. It was a classic mint chocolate chip ice cream, but somehow 10 times better. They made sure not to skimp on that mint flavor, and it was for the better. It left me wanting more, and I even got a second full serving after my first – and one serving for me is about three scoops. The chocolate chips were much more like chocolate chunks, and I was 100% here for it. I’m not sure where they get their chocolate chips from, but they don’t ever need to get them anywhere else.

Tillamook doesn’t feel the need to use bright colors in some of their ice cream flavors, because the flavor speaks for itself. When your ice cream is amazing, you don’t need to worry as much about how it looks, because the flavor really is just THAT good. People are going to choose it over other ones regardless of how “pretty” it looks when they know how good it tastes.

I’m sure some of you are probably thinking, “Is it really that great? I mean, it’s just mint chocolate chip ice cream.” For you guys, I’d especially love for you to find it near you right here, so you can try it for yourselves. I’m sure you’ll understand afterwards. 😊

That’s all for now! I’ll see you next time, bye!

Flavor #2 – Oregon Strawberry

Welcome back!

Next up is . . . Oregon Strawberry!

My relationship with strawberry ice cream is similar to that of mine with the gym – appreciative, yet practically nonexistent.

Is the gym a good concept? Of course it is. However, I’m almost never in the mood for it, and the same goes for strawberry ice cream.

When I got this ice cream, I didn’t anticipate on being a huge fan. Strawberry ice cream in general is exceptionally tasty, but I wasn’t really interested in eating it myself and I just assumed that my family could finish it off themselves after I got my own little share.

First of all, the color of it isn’t super bright. When I think of strawberry ice cream, I typically picture the bright pink color, but this one was very pale in comparison to others. It was a little weird to me at first. Yet when I took the first bite, I was absolutely HOOKED.

It’s hard to describe exactly what I felt when eating it, but it was beautiful.

The ice cream contained little strawberry pieces in it, like most strawberry ice creams, but this one just “hit different” than any others.

Usually, the fruit just sort of seems to be placed into it. You have the ice cream, and you have the strawberries. They’re both good, and we leave it at that. Tillamook somehow did something different. I don’t know what they did with the strawberries, but they almost morphed into the cream perfectly.

When I bit into my first strawberry, I was taken aback. I really had to take a second and reflect on it before taking another bite. It had the perfect “slush-like” feeling to it, and it left me wondering where this ice cream had been all my life.

Remember when I said I didn’t really eat much strawberry ice cream before? That has completely changed, and I bought a new carton as soon as I finished off the other one.

The blend of textures in this one is impressive – just indescribable. It’s really something you’d just have to try for yourself in order to fully grasp what I’m saying. Take a look here and see if you can find it near you!

That’s all for now! Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you next time!

Welcome to my blog!

Hey there, everybody! Welcome to my blog, Tilla-Maya. My name is Maya Goodlow, and I am currently an advertising and mass communications major and psychology minor at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

If someone were to ask me about what food I loved most in this world was, it would honestly be a little difficult, because I love food in general. On the other hand, if that same person asked me what food I could never get tired of, I would say ice cream, with no hesitation.

As a relatively picky eater, I eat all my food the exact same. Whether it’s a sandwich, pasta, a burger, a salad, or anything else, I tend to stick to a preferred way of eating it, and I don’t particularly like changing things up. Why fix what isn’t broken? Therefore, ice cream never fails me. I may be picky with everything else, but ice cream is one of the few foods that I am willing to try in a variety of ways and flavors, and I’m sure that many other people will agree with me too.

Recently, I stumbled upon Tillamook, which is a brand that was based in Tillamook, Oregon. I had heard of them before, because they are famous for their cheeses, but I did not realize they made ice cream as well! Truth be told, the reason I decided to try it was because my mom recommended it after I had gotten nervous about ice cream following the whole Blue Bell situation (I was definitely a little dramatic, but for good reason!). Tillamook ice cream is sealed, so I knew I had to give it a try.

With that being said, I am simply going to be reviewing different flavors of Tillamook ice cream. I have tried a few, and I’m really interested in trying more! I hope this can give a little insight to those of you in the audience who love ice cream like me and are willing to try a different brand or flavor that you may not have before. I can’t wait to start sharing my experiences with you all.

Thank you for visiting; I really hope you’ll stick around. For more updates on future posts, make sure you follow my Twitter, here.

I’ll see you next time! 🙂
